In line with growth plans, March saw the opening of an Edinburgh base for Pulsion Technology, one of Scotland’s leading IT development companies. Charlotte Square, in the hub of the capital’s business district, is now home to some of the Pulsion support and business development teams.

This new opening follows on from an earlier decision to relocate the company’s headquarters to a larger site within Glasgow to house the growing Development and Product divisions.

Malcolm Shannon, Managing Director, Pulsion IT Services, comments,

“ Although Pulsion is headquartered in Glasgow, it makes sense for us to have an Edinburgh base. Many of our finance and public sector clients are based in the east coast and we see a large opportunity for further growth. There is no doubt that customers appreciate us having a local base. As we grow as a company we are keen to employ talented IT professionals from both sides of the country – the opening of an Edinburgh office makes this easier.

Our next step is to set up a London base to service the growing business we are doing in London and the South-East, and we are already well advanced with these plans. ”

eSquiggles driving efficiencies in leading FM company

November 2007

This month has seen the implementation of the first phase of a mobile working project which is set to make huge cost savings. The client, one of Scotland’s largest Facilities Management providers, has already witnessed the cost and productivity benefits that usingmobile working software can bring to bear.

Many of the organisation’s business processes were inefficient and created duplication of effort. Planned Preventative Maintenance jobs (PPM) were being created in an existing IT system, which generated paper-based inspection jobs. These were completed by field workers by hand, passed back for retyping into a formal report and retyping into the existing IT system.

With the introduction of eSquiggles mobile working, the whole process is now carried out electronically. This includes the management and allocation of jobs, collection of data onsite, sending data back directly into the IT system and automatically generating the final report, with no need for retyping.

The project is being delivered by of Pulsion Technology and its eSquiggles mobile working solution, alongside partner organisation MoST Enviroliance, providers of environmental and business process consultancy to reengineer.

Benefits already recognised include reduction in costs and paperwork, increase in productivity levels, improvements in quality of data and tighter control of management reporting against KPIs and SLAs. The feedback from the client has been fantastic and they are now considering other operational functions which could be carried out via eSquiggles for future phases.

A Time of Growth for Pulsion

November 2007

Pulsion Technology today announced the appointment of Malcolm Shannon as Managing Director of its IT Services division. Malcolm brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience having held senior management positions for over 20 years within companies such as Anite Public Sector, Bull Information Systems and CMG.

The appointment comes at a time of growth for Pulsion Technology, which over the past twelve years has developed into one of Scotland’s leading IT companies and Microsoft Gold partners. Since the launch of the eSquiggles mobile working solution, Pulsion has gained a presence in additional markets including the Facilities Management and Surveying markets. The success of the product has spurred on a number of additional sales and technical appointments and has prompted the decision to relocate to larger premises

Commenting on his new role Malcolm says,

“ I’m delighted to have taken up this position within Pulsion, which comes at an exciting time for the company. We have a solid client base and with the growing success of the eSquiggles mobile working product and other key solutions we are set to have another successful year. The appointment of myself and a number of technical and sales staff means we’ll be relocating to larger modern premises in Glasgow soon, which reflects Pulsion’s plans for continued growth which I look forward to being a part of! ”

eSquiggles Gains Huge Interest at TWM Expo

October 2007

Pulsion Technology recently showcased its eSquiggles mobile working solution at the TWM Expo in London, which received a large level of interest from delegates. The event was held in the London Olympia and is one of the largest Facilities Management exhibitions held in the UK.

With a number of FM clients already on board, including one of the largest FM organisations in Scotland, Pulsion had already recognised the huge potential for the growth of mobile working within the FM sector. However, the levels of interest on the exhibition stand surpassed expectation, generating a healthy number of sales opportunities and feeding invaluable information into the product development plans.

Delegates quickly recognised the potential cost and productivity benefits which could be gained from carrying out assessment, audits and data collection on-site electronically. The solution automates the whole data collection process through to passing the information back to office and existing IT systems. Final inspection reports and other documentation can be generated automatically, reducing duplication of effort and increasing quality of data.

Pulsion Technology attends nothing.but.the.net Conference

October 2006

Pulsion Technology recently exhibited at the nothing.but.the.net Legal IT Conference, which was held in Glasgow.  The conference is one of the key legal IT events to be held in Scotland and was an excellent platform for Pulsion Technology to discuss our unique approach to IT within the legal sector.  There was great interest in our recent integration, management reporting and knowledge management type projects, which should pave the way for future company growth.

This event also marked the unveiling of a ‘new look’ Pulsion following a company re-brand.  The delegates who visited the Pulsion Technology stand agreed that the fresh and modern look was representative of the company and our solutions.

Well done to the winner of our prize draw, who walked away from the conference with an iPod!

Pulsion Technology launches eSquiggles Mobile Working Solution

October 2006

Pulsion Technology Ltd has recently launched its mobile working solution – and has within the past month secured its first users of the product. ‘eSquiggles’ is one of very few mobile working solutions which is available on an ASP (application service provision) model, making it affordable across a range of organisations.
The emphasis of eSquiggles is on reducing paperwork and eliminating the need for return trips to the office to collect jobs and return completed paperwork. In collaboration with a leading surveying company, eSquiggles was originally designed for the surveying market, facilitating the capture of data on site and allowing the full survey process to be completed electronically. However, with projected cost savings of £4K per mobile worker per annum and scope to increase productivity by 20% per day, the product has clear benefits to other vertical markets.
eSquiggles allows field workers to perform the following on-site electronically:

  • capture data
  • complete electronic forms
  • access data stores
  • produce complex reports
  • return reports and documents instantly

John McGuire, Managing Director of Pulsion Technology explains

“For years, large volumes of paperwork has been par for the course for most organizations. However, the advent of mobile technology such as eSquiggles means that field workers can now go about their daily tasks and capture data electronically without the need to return to the office. The beauty of eSquiggles is the flexibility of the electronic forms and the fact they can be easily and quickly tailored to any company’s requirements, without technical assistance. Many smaller companies have been unable to afford mobile working solutions to date and are favourable to this type of technology on an ASP purchasing basis.”

Pulsion Helps Drive IT Investment at Weslo Housing Management

September 2006

Weslo Housing Management is an organisation focused on managing housing stock and providing affordable rented accommodation across West Lothian and Falkirk.

Central to Weslo’s operation is a robust IT infrastructure, including a housing management solution which was acquired a number of years ago. As Weslo has grown as an organisation, it has continued to invest in IT solutions in order to streamline processes and effectively manage its growing housing stock.

Pulsion was engaged by Weslo in late 2004, to complete development work on existing IT solutions and help ‘ramp up’ the performance of these applications. Following some initial consultancy, Pulsion Consultants were able to quickly advise on areas of the housing management system which could be re-developed to improve performance, without a major technical investment. Whilst the development work on this project is still ongoing, Pulsion has also completed a project to build an Intranet for Weslo, which is accessible securely across a number of regional offices. The Intranet acts as the central source of information for all Weslo staff and is accessed via a web browser. This means that remote or home based workers can also easily access shared documentation, corporate information and administration/HR information. The project was delivered on time and to budget and strengthens the partnership between Weslo Housing Management and Pulsion Technology.
